Seven or eight years ago, I went to the Power of One concert in Wisconsin. Power of One is a one-day music festival of Christian artists. It was there that I first saw and heard Skillet (and developed a crush on lead vocalist John Cooper... and his equally attractive wife and bandmate Korey). Flash forward to a year ago, I was pleased to find this song - "Rebirthing" - on my brother Brian's iPod, a hot track off the band's 2006 tour de force album Comatose.

Every so often, a project comes along that changes the face of music as we know it.[...] I predict that Skillet's Comatose will enter that pantheon of projects I mentioned above [Jars of Clay's debut, dcTalk's Jesus Freak] and will literally change the face of Christian music and music in general.

While I still have yet to listen to the full Comatose album (a year and half later), I have thoroughly enjoyed the tracks I have heard off of the release, especially "The Older I Get." That particular track strikes a chord with me, having been recently released from chemical dependency treatment and now embarking on a life in recovery and Christ. One Skillet album I have heard all the way through is 2000's Invincible, and it was absolutely awesome for the time it was released (during Orgy's international superstardom with their cover of "Blue Monday," which propelled techno-alt-rock into the mainstream.... 'course we also have Manson and NIN's Trent Reznor to thank for that).

Skillet will be in Arnold's Park, Iowa, on July 5, and I will be there with my brother and his friends. Then I'll be seeing them again on July 19 at Sonshine Fest in Willmar, Minnesota. Let me know if you'll be at either one (or both)!
